This installation between Brett Piva and Holly Leonardson is an extension of their recent exhibition work for Material Drift.
Both artists were heavily involved in the design process, pulling shape and colour from their own and each other’s recent work but allowing freedom to tweak the palette for a unique result.
In the studio, Holly’s beach combing photographs were scaled up and screen printed on wood panel and paired with the abstracted natural forms that both artists work with. Timber reclaimed from Brett’s studio was painted with graphic shapes and textures using paint from his previous mural jobs. The painted wall on site flows behind and over the different heights of the wood creating a textural composition that speaks to their process and Holly’s background in collage.
